Volunteer: Mahjong Club

The ACCC hosts a Mahjong Club on the second Thursday of each month from 5–7pm.


Volunteers are needed one hour before and after the event to help with setup and cleanup. During the event, volunteers may assist with arranging tables and chairs, preparing mahjong sets, and completing other tasks as needed.

Volunteer: Sewing Classes for Sudanese & MENA Women

Sewing classes and financial literacy classes which are Allstate Financial Literacy Education to help women in the community build skills and confidence.

Volunteer Responsibilities: 

Assist teacher with classroom set up / clean up, Welcome students as they walk in, Watch the children of those attending the class(Optional but preferred) Help with sewing instruction or support if you have sewing experience

The main focus of this volunteer role is to support the teacher during class and help provide childcare for children while their mothers attend sewing and financial literacy classes.

The Afghan Elders Class is designed to provide a supportive environment for Afghan elders and women. This class offers participants an opportunity to promote community health and wellness, empower women within the community, and share their experiences.

Watch the children of those attending the class

Ensure children are safe at all times, both during play and structured activities, and that they follow established safety protocols.

Encourage creativity, social interaction, and positive behavior.

Maintain a clean and organized classroom or play space.

In partnership with El Centro de las Américas, the Asian Community & Cultural Center offers FREE citizenship classes for permanent residents / green card holders. Lutheran Family Services and Catholic Social Services are also partners in this program to provide students who complete a 10 week class free legal assistance with their N-400 applications from one of their DOJ's or lawyers.

 

Volunteer responsibilities include:

Citizenship class instructors are seeking up to two volunteers assigned per class.
