We’re seeking volunteers who are friendly, outgoing, reliable, and comfortable interacting with families and community members. Volunteers will receive a brief orientation and guidance from Linked2Literacy representatives before the event, so no prior experience is required.

Be a Buzz Builder! Help spread the word about the event across Lincoln! The Promotion Team will distribute flyers at local businesses and community boards, and share event information on social media and within their networks to help build excitement and increase attendance.

Ideal strengths: outgoing, community-minded, comfortable talking with local businesses, reliable, and enthusiastic about promoting community events.

Help bring the event to life by preparing the park before guests arrive. Tasks include unloading book boxes, arranging tables and chairs for community booths, placing yard signs, and assisting with sidewalk chalking and other event setup needs.

Ideal strengths: flexible, detail-oriented, physically able to lift and move supplies, team player, and willing to jump into a variety of hands-on tasks outdoors.

Help safely and efficiently break down the event at the end of the day. Tasks include dismantling tents, packing up tables and chairs, collecting supplies, and restoring the park space after the event.

Ideal strengths: reliable, physically able to lift and carry items, team-oriented, efficient, and willing to work outdoors and complete hands-on cleanup tasks.

Use a truck or large van to transport leftover books from the book swap directly to the library after the event. This role ensures donated books are safely and efficiently delivered for continued community use.

Ideal strengths: dependable, has access to a large van or truck, comfortable loading and transporting boxes, responsible with handling donated materials, and able to coordinate post-event drop-off logistics.

Drive through the park and surrounding area after the event to collect yard signs. One volunteer will operate the vehicle while the other assists by safely removing and gathering signs along the route.

Ideal strengths: reliable, comfortable working in pairs, able to follow a route, good communication skills, and willing to do light outdoor physical activity.

Be a HAUL STAR! Provide trucks and help transport event tents, supplies, and equipment to and from the event site. Volunteers will also assist with unloading materials and assembling tents during setup and teardown.

Ideal strengths: reliable, physically able to lift and carry supplies, comfortable working outdoors, team-oriented, and experienced with hauling or transporting large items.

Keep the community book swap organized and welcoming by sorting and arranging donated books, maintaining displays, and helping keep the area tidy and easy to browse throughout the event.

Ideal strengths: organized, detail-oriented, enjoys books/reading, able to stay on their feet and do light lifting, and comfortable helping keep shared spaces orderly.

Greet attendees as they arrive, provide a brief overview of the event and activities, track attendance, and distribute book bags for the swap.

Ideal strengths: friendly and welcoming, organized, comfortable speaking with the public, detail-oriented, and able to stay attentive in a busy entry area.

Roam the event grounds and help attendees discover all the activities available. Share information, answer questions, and encourage guests to explore different areas so they can get the most out of the event.

Ideal strengths: outgoing, approachable, strong communicators, familiar with the event layout, and enthusiastic about helping others have a great experience.

Help keep guests comfortable and the event space clean by restocking water stations, reminding attendees to stay hydrated, and assisting with light trash pickup and general tidying throughout the event.

Ideal strengths: proactive, responsible, attentive to needs, comfortable walking the event grounds, team-oriented, and willing to help with light physical tasks outdoors.

Responsibilities: Run individual carnival game stations by explaining rules, encouraging participation, managing turns, and helping keep the games fun and running smoothly throughout the event.
