The ACCC hosts a Mahjong Club on the second Thursday of each month from 5–7pm.

Volunteers are needed one hour before and after the event to help with setup and cleanup. During the event, volunteers may assist with arranging tables and chairs, preparing mahjong sets, and completing other tasks as needed.

Sewing classes and financial literacy classes which are Allstate Financial Literacy Education to help women in the community build skills and confidence.

Volunteer Responsibilities: 

The main focus of this volunteer role is to support the teacher during class and help provide childcare for children while their mothers attend sewing and financial literacy classes.

The Afghan Elders Class is designed to provide a supportive environment for Afghan elders and women. This class offers participants an opportunity to promote community health and wellness, empower women within the community, and share their experiences.

Ensure children are safe at all times, both during play and structured activities, and that they follow established safety protocols.

Encourage creativity, social interaction, and positive behavior.

Maintain a clean and organized classroom or play space.

Volunteers will work with the Food Bank of Lincoln to give away books to any cars with children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews that might want a free book while waiting in line for their food from the Food Bank distribution.

Jo Sheets will be the L2L Representative at the site to assist with training volunteers, so look/ask for her when you arrive. Arrive about 15 minutes early so that you can get instructions.

In partnership with El Centro de las Américas, the Asian Community & Cultural Center offers FREE citizenship classes for permanent residents / green card holders. Lutheran Family Services and Catholic Social Services are also partners in this program to provide students who complete a 10 week class free legal assistance with their N-400 applications from one of their DOJ's or lawyers.

Juneteenth Celebration Volunteer 

Linked2Literacy (L2L) is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to represent our organization at the Juneteenth Celebration, a family-friendly event focused on connection, culture, and community.

As a booth volunteer, you'll help share Linked2Literacy's mission of promoting literacy and educational opportunities, engage with attendees, answer questions about our programs, and help families learn about resources available in our community. Volunteers will also assist with booth activities, distribute materials, and create a welcoming environment for visitors of all ages.

This celebration brings together families, neighbors, local businesses, and community organizations for a day of live entertainment, youth activities, community resources, and connection. Juneteenth commemorates an important moment in American history and highlights resilience, unity, and the strength of our community.

Do you enjoy working with children, getting creative, and sharing a love of reading? Join Linked2Literacy as a volunteer in the LNKLab at the Lincoln Children's Museum!

Volunteers will help children ages 8–12 create handmade bookmarks using colorful tape and recycled paper in the Maker Studio. These bookmarks will be distributed at WordStock, helping readers of all ages keep their place in a favorite book while supporting literacy in our community.

As a volunteer, you'll engage with children in a fun, hands-on environment, encourage creativity, assist with the bookmark-making process, and help spark conversations about the joy of reading. You'll also share how books can inspire imagination, build knowledge, and transport readers to new places and experiences.

At Nebraska Diaper Bank Volunteer Diaper Wrapping Event you can expect to be active, move diaper boxes, unload diapers out of boxes, bundle diapers, stack and bag bundled diapers.

Diaper wrapping takes place in a warehouse setting; closed-toe shoes are required.  This is a physically active activity.  You may want to bring a water bottle.  Volunteers will be standing for the shift; we can accommodate some seated jobs.

We are especially focused on our youth (1,800 High School Contestants) and their families during the National High School Finals Rodeo being held at Sandhills Global Event Center, July 16-25,2026. Volunteers aid in many different departments. You choose the jobs and time slots that work best for you:

Ticketing & Admission: assist customers in purchasing tickets on their phone, scan tickets, usher customers to seats as needed, usually indoors. 

Parking Lot Attendants: outdoors in all weather, help expo attendees find parking 

Cafe Helpers: fill beverage orders, restock drink coolers & ice bins, prep vegetables, wrap sandwiches, wash dishes 

Custodial Helpers: independent work to include maintaining restrooms, trash, wipe down tables, sweep up crumbs or spills, polish glass doors 

Physical Requirements 

Prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, using step stool. Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including varying weather conditions. 

Dress Requirements 

Support the annual WingFest on Saturday, July 18th at Haymarket Park. You will assist by taking tickets for local restaurants competing for the title of Lincoln's Best Wings.

Assist with cleaning, yardwork/landscaping, organizing donations, etc. 

If you can speak, read and write well in English, and want to share those skills, you can be an effective tutor. You don't need an education degree, prior experience, or knowledge of another language — just a desire to help others and a willingness to be trained. Tutoring works best when it is informal, personalized, and fun. 

​If you have training in an occupation or profession you'd like to share, even better! Many of our adult students hope to pursue a career, and our volunteer tutors can help them on their journey via Bridgeway to a Better Life, our adult skills program.

To become a tutor, you must attend a one-hour orientation and two 90-minute sessions of training, depending on which program you choose — English Language (ELL) or Adult Skills (AS). Classes and tutoring are offered online or in person.

English Language classes are focused on improving reading, writing, and spoken English. Adults Skills classes are focused on higher level skills such as teacher or healthcare prep classes or our GED prep classes.

We ask you to volunteer to teach at least once a week on average. This involves approximately 30 minutes of preparation for each class. Some tutors volunteer for more than one class.

We value tutors that commit to an extended period of volunteer service with Lincoln Literacy, and we want to ensure their success and personal fulfillment. Because of this, we provide four hours of training as well as ongoing support to all tutors as part of their volunteer service to Lincoln Literacy.

Our tutor Chet said, "Tutoring was one of the best parts of my year. It gives me purpose and my students always brighten my day."

A tutor meets with a small class group online or in person. Classes are based on students' skill level, including beginning, intermediate, and advanced.

CASA volunteers are asked to provide 3 references and must pass a local, state and national criminal background check along with child/adult abuse registry check. CASA volunteers get cases moving through the system, expedite permanency and make sure the children have the services they need to grow and thrive.

The Lincoln Bike Kitchen is a volunteer-powered nonprofit that refurbishes and distributes bicycles to children and adults who need them for transportation, work, school, and recreation. Each year, thousands of bikes are repaired and given a second life through the work of dedicated volunteers.

Bike Mechanics – Help repair and refurbish donated bicycles

Customer Service – Assist with welcoming visitors and helping match community members with the right bike.

Perishable food program

Our valued community partner, the Food Bank of Lincoln, delivers between 3,000 and 15,000 pounds of food every Monday and Wednesday morning for distribution. This includes a wide variety of items such as vegetables, fruits, dairy products, meat, pastries, bread, beverages, canned goods, breakfast items, and other miscellaneous products. Your assistance is greatly appreciated in sorting the food items and placing them appropriately on tables, shelves, or in refrigerators. Once all food has been organized, your assistance would be invaluable in distributing it to families and individuals in need.

Following the distribution, your help would be appreciated in cleaning up, taking the trash outdoors, and recycling cardboard boxes.

The hours of volunteering vary from 8 am until 12 pm, or until all food has been distributed.

The Good Neighbor Community Center accepts gently used items for distribution to families in need. Volunteers play a vital role in the collection, sorting, and distribution of these donated items.

Due to all the activities that happen at the center, keeping up with some facility maintenance activities can be a challenge. We always welcome volunteers, groups, or anyone interested in building their resume and is interested in helping us or gaining experience with cleanliness, safety, and functionality of our facilities.

We are looking for volunteers to help with our 24-hour crisis line!

Voices of Hope is a local non-profit organization that has been in our community for 49 years! We serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and related types of abuse. We operate 24-hours through our advocacy response to the hospitals and LPD as well through our 24-hour crisis line that operates thanks to our wonderful volunteers!

We offer a variety of presentations at no cost for any duration of time. Invite us to speak at your workplace, church, organization, community group, or your own home! We are happy to do these presentations in person or over video conferencing, and are willing to travel outside of Lincoln.

The court monitoring program helps to ensure that impaired driving cases in Nebraska are handled consistently and swiftly, that victims are treated appropriately, and their rights are upheld during court proceedings.

As a Court Monitor Volunteer, individuals are responsible for collecting and observing the court system. There are both in-person and virtual opportunities within the Court Monitoring program.

Skills/Training Requirements: Background check, good listening skills, completion of MADD orientation and Court Monitoring training, and daytime availability.

Walk Like MADD planning committee volunteers have the opportunity to become the driving force behind MADD's signature fundraising and awareness event. Volunteers work with staff and committee to plan the logistics of the walk event, reach out to local businesses for sponsorships and in-kind donations, recruit individual and team walkers, and help to steer all areas of the walk event to ensure a memorable experience for all attending. This is a great opportunity for students wanting to learn more about event planning and non-profit events. All volunteers helping will need good communication skills and great teamwork ability. The walk event works to remember those we have lost to impaired driving, Inspire us all to end drunk driving and commit to a future with no more victims.

Looking for a quick and easy way to help support a great cause! Come and help MADD Nebraska with sign-in for our Victim Impact Panels. Panels are a way for victims of impaired driving to share their story with those sentenced in the court system for driving under the influence. Sign-in volunteers assist in filling out receipts, taking money orders and ensuring all attendees are checked in correctly.

The MADD Victim Impact Panel program allows those whose lives have been impacted by impaired driving to educate others about the true danger of drinking and driving. The program allows convicted DUI offenders to hear the stories of those impacted in their community and works to create a change in behavior. MADD Nebraska is looking for individuals who are able to facilitate these panels in the community. Volunteer facilitators would handle on location logistics, registration and fees, running of the panel, exit surveys and all communication with the MADD state office. Each panel takes around 4 hours from set-up to tear down. Facilitators must be able to handle working with a diverse population, and pass a background check for cash-handling. Training is provided for all facilitators.

Victim Advocate Volunteers are responsible for providing victim services to victims/survivors of substance impaired driving crashes who are in need of crisis intervention, emotional support, practical guidance, community referrals, and support groups.  Services are delivered in-person, by telephone and in writing. Skills/Training Requirements: background check, ability to communicate effectively, reliable transportation and completion of Beginning Victim Assistance Training Institute (16 hours). Time Commitment: 5- 10 hours per week; one year commitment.

For the rest of the summer, we are looking for a small group that would be interested in coming to help do some yard clean up. This could be a one time opportunity or an ongoing weekly or biweekly opportunity.

LAA runs an income-based spay/neuter voucher program, which issues vouchers individuals can use to reduce the cost of getting their pet spayed or neutered. This helps to prevent pet homelessness by reducing unwanted litters. LAA also maintains a need-based pet food bank, helping pets stay in homes when their human's life get tough. LAA promotes enrichment of our community through progressive thinking, education, awareness, and public support. We are committed to addressing the root causes of animal homelessness in our community. LAA does this through preventative strategies and is not a rescue, we do not directly care for any homeless animals. By volunteering with LAA, you become a part of our mission to prevent homeless animals.

Because our programs rely on volunteers to operate, we need reliable volunteers who can make a commitment to LAA. What is the Connectors Program? 

The Connectors Program offers a professional networking & mentorship opportunity for eligible, foreign-trained professionals seeking to re-enter their profession in the State of Nebraska. The program pairs foreign-trained professionals seeking career advancement with an established career mentor in their field for a three-month mentorship period. Common professions include, but are not limited to: Accounting, Education, Engineering, Law, & Nursing. 

How long does the mentorship period last? 

3 months. 

How often do mentors meet with the mentee? 

Mentors are asked to meet with the mentee at least 2-3 times during the 3-month period, with the expectation of ongoing, periodic communication throughout that time. 

How much time do mentors devote to the program? 

Mentors may spend on average 5-10 hours total over the 3-month period.  Do meetings take place in-person or virtually?  Either: meetings can be in-person or virtual (phone, teleconference, etc.) depending on the preference of both the mentor and client. 

What are the objectives of the mentorship period? 

The objective of the Connectors Program mentorship is for the client to receive guidance on job application readiness, professional communication, and expansion of their professional network so that they may launch their careers with connections and confidence.

Who can participate in the program? 

To receive career advancement mentorship, one must: 

1) identify as a refugee or immigrant in the United States; and 

2) have a degree from a foreign country. 

To offer career advancement mentorship, one must: 

1) have professional experience in the client’s professional field (common professions include, but are not limited to: Accounting, Education, Engineering, Law, & Nursing); 

2) be willing to provide guidance for job application readiness and professional communication; and 

3) be willing to provide 3-5 professional connections to the client, e.g. prospective employers and professionals who can expand the client’s networking opportunities. 

How are mentors and mentees matched? 

Mentees will be matched with a career mentor who either has direct experience in the mentee’s career or who has experience with professional coaching and job recruitment in the mentee’s professional field. Additional considerations for matching include preferences of meeting mode and availability.

Become a Big and make a lasting difference in a young person’s life! Our Community-Based Mentoring program allows adult mentors, "Bigs," and youth, "Littles," to share activities on their own schedule. Matches typically meet up on weekends or evenings for at least four hours a month. We encourage free or low-cost activities like bike riding, board games, baking, or just taking a walk.

One of the most important pieces of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program is that Bigs can provide their Littles with opportunities to be inspired and try something new. Littles can explore new environments and learn skills that they may not have otherwise had an opportunity to experience. No special skills are required to be a Big; just consistency and a willingness to show up!

Girls on the Run Seeks Fall Coaches Across Lincoln

Another fabulous season of friendship and 5K fun is on tap as part of the Girls on the Run, and we need volunteer coaches across Lincoln to deliver our innovative curriculum that builds confidence, character and physical activity in girls. 

You DON’T have to be a runner to get involved – you just need to live a healthy lifestyle, project a positive attitude and have passion to help young girls put their best foot forward with our transformational social-emotional learning program.

Girls on the run is an innovative after-school program that combines exercise, education and mentoring to promote self-esteem, goal-setting and healthy living in sixth- through sixth-grade girls. Teams meet for 75 minutes twice a week (total 16 meetings) over 8 to 10 weeks to play interactive running games and train for a 5K run/walk at the end of the season. Lessons on goal-setting, health, communication and teamwork are incorporated with the physical training, so girls get a well-rounded positive experience in a noncompetitive atmosphere.

The overall time commitment for first-time coaches is about 30 hours over 12 weeks. That includes:

·         3 hours of online training modules;

·        an in-person meeting in August or February

·        16 meetings with the team between Aug. 20 and Nov. 1

·        CPR/First Aid certification, if required (one coach per site must be certified);

·        2 hours on 5K day

Experience Volunteers are individuals who are completing volunteer hours in their free-time or for required hours through a college/school course. Experience Volunteers' main objective is to mentor and supervise the youth at Lighthouse. Responsibilities include:

- Being a positive role model to youth by demonstrating a positive attitude, behavior, and initiating activities and modeling active listening in conversations.

- Provide supervision in activity areas ensuring that appropriate behaviors are reinforced/praised and inappropriate behaviors are corrected.

- Provide tutoring to all youth that come to Lighthouse.

- Assist Program Coordinator with program implementation when requested.

- Assist with completion of nightly checklist that includes cleaning.

Community Service Volunteers are any volunteers completing hours for Diversion, Probation, Court Ordered and Drug Court. Lighthouse does not accept all charges, and confirmation will need to be approved by Volunteer Coordinator before scheduling. Responsibilities include:

- Maintain the aesthetics of Lighthouse.

- Provide positive role modeling to youth by demonstrating positive attitude and behavior.

- Aid in the completion of nightly checklist that includes cleaning duties.

- Cleaning of the kitchen and other areas as assigned.

- Aid with the preparation of the evening meal when requested: setting tables, food prep, sweeping, mopping, washing dishes.

Internships are for students typically in college or university who are completing internship or practicum hours. The main objective for interns is to mentor and supervise the youth at Lighthouse. Responsibilities include:

- Being a positive role model to youth by demonstrating a positive attitude, behavior, and initiating activities and modeling active listening in conversations.

- Provide supervision in activity areas ensuring the appropriate behaviors are reinforced/praised and inappropriate behaviors are corrected.

- Support staff in programming or educational areas.

- Assisting in completing nightly checklist.

- Other tasks may vary based on placement (general intern, programming, education).
